Updates for tomorrow, October 14 (Climate Rally & Gene Baur talk)

Hi everyone,

Here are a few updates for the two events tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14th in Orange.

Tomorrow, at noon, we will gather at the Orange Circle for a Climate Rally in support of People’s Climate Movement’s call for a day of national action. We will have rally signs at the event, or feel free to bring your own. Please keep the messages civil and about climate action only. Plan to arrive early to find street or public lot parking and arrive inside the circle by 11:45a so we can start the rally promptly at noon. Please come if you can, we need to demonstrate as much public support for bold, fast, effective action on these issues as possible. All details and RSVP are on the web site: Climate Action Rally at Orange Traffic Circle.

Tomorrow, at 7:00pm, come join us for A Special Evening with Gene Baur: Living the Farm Sanctuary Life. Please make sure to RSVP on the web site. We reached capacity last week, started a waiting list, then got the extremely good news yesterday that Chapman University had found a larger venue for this event. That means, yes, you can still RSVP to attend — we have room for you! And, it also means, please take note of the venue change and parking info on the event site.

Also — several nearby restaurants have agreed to help publicize these events and offer one or many vegan options on October 14th. So, consider lunch after the rally, or an early dinner before the Gene Baur event at one of these restaurants. Ask them about the vegan option(s). Both event sites (above) list participating restaurants.

October 14 — Climate Rally at noon & Gene Baur at Chapman in the evening

Hi everyone,

Next week, on Wednesday, October 14 at 7p, Gene Baur, co-founder and President of Farm Sanctuary, a truly remarkable human being, is coming to Chapman University in Orange. He is addressing, and has been for almost 30 years now, some of the things we don’t talk about very much, but really need to give more thought to. I am extremely excited about this event!

Did you see the clip of him a few months back when he was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart? If not, you can see it here.

Also on October 14, at noon, we will be down the street from Chapman at the Orange Circle for a Climate Rally. We planned the Gene Baur event date several months ago and then People’s Climate Movement put out a call for a day of National Action on the same date. For those who aren’t aware, animal agriculture is hugely destructive for the environment, especially when it comes to critical climate issues. It seemed perfect for these two events to wind up occurring on the same day.

In honor of Gene being in town, several of the restaurants between the Orange Circle and Chapman will be participating with us by offering a vegan entrée on October 14th. We hope you will have a post-rally lunch, or an early dinner before the Gene Baur event (or both) at one of these participating restaurants to show support for their efforts. I will include the list in the next email, so make sure to watch for that. We will also post it on the OCCA web site very soon. Continue reading
