We’re on a roll with momentum building!

Hi everyone,

Amidst so many difficult, traumatizing, present-day challenges in the world, I found the response to our first-time offering of TRE Level I Certification Training in San Diego quite heartening. We reached capacity much more quickly than we expected and already have about 8 people on our waiting list for the yet-to-be-scheduled “next time” — likely to be in early 2015. So, go ahead, look over the registration site, and even though we are full for this time, get in touch with us if you want to be added to the waiting list for next year.

We are also about 2 1/2 weeks out from launching Phase 3: Trauma Recovery for Refugees in San Diego. Last Saturday was our first pre-research community outreach / intake session in City Heights, held at the Southern Sudanese Community Center. We now are about 1/3 of the way to having the number of female East African Refugees we need to be ready to start the pilot on September 6. This coming Saturday we will be repeating this effort with sessions at United Women of East Africa and Horn of Africa. We hope to be full by the end of the day.

These outreach efforts were only possible because we have a great collaboration with local refugee organizations and research team from National University. Additionally, our volunteers played an essential role. While I was commuting home from the Advanced TRE Training in Tempe AZ, getting ready to head up to Hermosa Beach to attend the Carl Wilkens Fellowship Community Partner Dinner, a group of amazing volunteers were in San Diego helping out with the intakes. This coming Saturday, while I am partnered with Terri Martin teaching the TRE 3-day training, another group of amazing volunteers will once again be helping out making sure we are ready to start the research on time. Also amazing — the number of our volunteers wanting to be trained and certified in TRE  — an even bigger level of commitment of their time and energy.

So, we are on a roll with momentum building! (Did I mention the documentary about PTSD we will be working on this fall?)

Our Living Ubuntu planning meeting is tonight, details are below. If you live locally, why don’t you come join us this evening? We would love to have you there :)

BTW: To everyone that came out to the Veggie Grill fundraiser — thank you! Many of us had quite a lot of fun that night :)

Grateful for your interest and ongoing support,
