Who is David Berceli?

David Berceli

David Berceli, PhD is an international expert in the areas of trauma intervention and conflict resolution.  For the past 22 years he has lived and worked in nine countries providing trauma relief workshops and designing recovery programs for international organizations around the world. Dave has lived and worked extensively in Israel/Palestine, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Yemen, Egypt, and Lebanon.  Fluent in English and Arabic, David brings a keen understanding of the intertwining dynamics of religion and ethnic customs and has developed specific processes to enable people to manage personal trauma as well as bring healing and reconciliation between diverse groups. He is the creator of a revolutionary and unique set of Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) that help release the deep chronic tension created in the body during a traumatic experience.

David Berceli explains the TRE process

“In the human body, genetically encoded in the neuro-physiology are mechanisms that we have evolved with to help and survive any kind of stressful or traumatic event…

What I do is get people through a series of exercises in their bodies, causing them to stress the muscles, mildly, and then to stretch the muscles.  And we keep doing that in a series of muscles throughout the legs and into the pelvis.

And in that slight gentle pulsating rhythm of working with the muscles, eventually the muscles begin to activate themselves into contraction and expansion.  And then the person can lay down on the floor in a passive position, and that pulsation not only continues, it actually begins traveling throughout the body – as it’s designed to do – to find muscles that are over-contracted and bring them into into that same pulsating type of rhythm.  And in sense reassemble the body in a more relaxed manner.”
